On the divorce process, and how you can improve your situation

If you are going through a divorce, there will be various waves of emotions that come over you at any given moment. There will be fear and anger, sadness and pain. There will also be hope. The divorce process doesn't have to be this arduous and difficult legal procedure that sees the two spouses yelling at each other incessantly every time they meet to discuss the topics at hand.

To the contrary, a divorce can be very efficient, and even healthy. If the two spouses are willing to work together and can adopt a few simple strategies, the divorce process can be rather quick and painless.

This isn't a promise, mind you. But it is an acknowledgment that divorce can be easier than it is portrayed. So what can you do to help your situation?

One of the best behaviors you can exhibit during a divorce is serenity. If you are calm during the divorce process, it will make it a lot easier to negotiate with your spouse and it will eliminate numerous arguments and roadblocks that could slow down the divorce.

Another crucial behavior is to be honest. Lying during the disclosure of assets or about your situation could lead to serious litigation and problems down the line -- or even during the initial steps of a divorce.

Last but not least, one thing you should avoid is making any big life decisions during a divorce. This means you shouldn't take that new job in a new state, or try to move at all during the divorce.
